Services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities
Location
Midwest Opportunities, Inc. has homes located in two rural towns in Corning and Creston in southwest Iowa. At the Creston location we serve children and adults and it is about a one hour drive southwest of Des Moines, while our program in Corning serving adults is approximately 1.5 hours southwest of Des Moines.
Service Description
The program is licensed as an Intermediate Care Facility for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. The program has a 1:2 staff ratio to provide the support needed to provide continuous teaching opportunities. The program has licensed nurses on staff to help meet the person's medical needs. There are hospitals in both of the communities. MOI uses local contracted consultants for the
individual's Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy or any other specialized services. The children attend the Creston Community School and the adults attend a vocational and day services program.
Home Description
The program is based in a homelike atmosphere providing learning opportunities in all aspects of the individual's life. There are three homes in Creston and two homes in Corning. Six individuals reside in each of the homes. Each has their own private bedroom decorated to their own personal preference. There is one central bath in each home to share for bathing or showering and is equipped with the necessary adaptive bathing equipment for the individual. The large kitchen, dining and living room areas provide room for individuals to be involved in all aspects of their home.
Individuals Served
To be eligible to receive services at MOI, the child or adult needs to be diagnosed with a developmental disability prior to the age of 22.
Vocational and Day Services
MOI provides vocational and day services. The program is individualized to meet the needs of the individual.
